Operations Analyst Intern – Natural Gas Trading - Summer 2027 (Austin, TX)
- On-site
- Austin, Texas, United States
- $10,000 - $10,000
- Wholesale Ops
Job description
Natural gas moves through one of the most complex, high-stakes logistical systems in the world. The traders, schedulers, and analysts who make the system work are part of a small, specialized field where deep operational knowledge is the foundation of everything else.
CarbonBetter's Operations Analyst Internship is a 10-week immersion in that world. This isn't a rotational program or a shadowing exercise. You'll learn the fundamentals of how physical natural gas is bought, sold, and moved across North America, and you'll put that knowledge to work on a real project that makes our traders and schedulers better at their jobs
All interns will be considered for full-time opportunities after graduation, based on performance.
What You'll Do
Learn the Fundamentals
Build a working knowledge of the physical gas market: pipelines, hubs, contracts, tariffs, nominations, and settlement.
Understand how trades actually happen — from price discovery through confirmation, scheduling, and delivery.
Study how risk, basis, and market structure shape decisions on a physical trading desk.
Contribute to a Real Project
Own a substantive project that directly supports the trading and scheduling team — the kind of work that stays in use after you leave.
Work alongside operations specialists and traders to understand the problem, scope the solution, and deliver it.
Present your work to desk leadership at the end of the summer.
Grow Professionally
Get direct mentorship from experienced traders and operations professionals.
Sit near the desk. See how decisions get made, how information flows, and how a small team manages a large physical portfolio.
Develop the analytical habits and market intuition that this industry is built on.
Why This Internship Is Different
A real entry point into a niche industry. Physical energy trading is hard to break into. Most people never get a look inside. This internship gives you a legitimate foundation in a field where operational knowledge is the currency.
Learn from practitioners. You'll work directly with the people who trade and schedule gas every day.
Real work, real stakes. Your project supports live commercial operations. No intern busywork.
