This role sits within our Retail Energy Division and reports to the Head of Product & Engineering. English fluency is required.

CarbonBetter’s retail energy division serves electricity and natural gas to homes and small businesses in Ohio, Michigan, and California, USA. We’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated Full-Stack Laravel PHP Developer to join our team. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining our web applications, optimizing database queries, and ensuring the smooth functioning of our systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in PHP, Laravel, MySQL, and a strong understanding of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, jQuery, and Vue. This position will work in our Medellín office.


Areas of Responsibility

  • Develop and maintain web applications using PHP and the Laravel framework.

  • Write efficient MySQL queries and optimize database performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and implement new features.

  • Conduct thorough testing using PHPUnit to ensure the quality and reliability of code.

  • Work with older versions of PHP and troubleshoot any compatibility issues.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders through verbal and written communication.

  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail to identify and resolve issues promptly.

  • Understand Linux systems, permissions, and encryption methods to ensure secure deployments.

  • Utilize Docker and Laravel Sail for application development and deployment in production environments.

  • Perform code reviews, participate in Git-based version control, and adhere to coding standards.

  • Create and optimize APIs for seamless integration with external systems.


About You

  • Extensive experience in PHP and the Laravel framework.

  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, and Vue for front-end development.

  • Proficiency in writing efficient MySQL queries and optimizing database performance.

  • Familiarity with testing methodologies, particularly PHPunit.

  • Ability to work with older versions of PHP and address compatibility challenges.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across departments.

  • Experience in project planning, prioritization, and meeting deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.

  • Understanding of Linux systems, permissions, and encryption methods.

  • Hands-on experience with Docker and deploying applications in production environments.

  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with Git for version control and code reviews.

  • Previous experience in creating and optimizing APIs.


Working Hours & Location

  • Our office is located in the El Poblado area of Medellín.

  • The working hours for this role are to remain in sync with the company’s Austin HQ (Central Time) throughout the year.
