This role sits within our Retail Energy Division and reports to the division GM. English fluency is required.
CarbonBetter’s retail energy division serves electricity and natural gas to homes and small businesses in Ohio, Michigan, and California, USA. We’re seeking a Head of Product & Engineering (or Product & Engineering Lead) in our Medellín office to build out our software development team to modernize and support our internal EDI and billing software and build internal data integrations. This role requires strong technical acumen, leadership skills, and the ability to act as a "player-coach."

Areas of Responsibility
Team Leadership & Management (40%)
Hire and onboard a small engineering team, including senior and junior developers and QA.
Create a team culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and accountability.
Conduct regular 1x1s, performance reviews, and planning.
Product Ownership (20%)
Prioritize bug fixes, new trading partner integrations, CRM and database two-way sync, and modernization.
Define and manage the 1-year roadmap for internal software tools with input from stakeholders and leadership.
Align software development priorities with business goals and stakeholder needs.
Product & Project Management (20%)
Act as a player-coach, contributing directly to software development while leading the team.
Own the product backlog, write user stories, and manage the development of internal tools.
Run sprints with clear goals, daily standups, retrospectives, and sprint reviews.
Identify and resolve roadblocks and ensure on-time delivery of sprints and projects.
Technical Execution (20%)
Lead the team in improving and maintaining right-sized and efficient internal EDI and billing software in addition to bi-directional data syncs between the internal database and CRM.
Contribute directly to development and bug fixes as a player-coach during the early phases and ongoing.
Lead the technical approach to modernization and utility integrations, managing the process from development through testing and deployment.
Make technical decisions regarding architecture, system design, and development processes to support long-term growth with the support of the team.
About You
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership role.
Experience as a player-coach—coding and debugging while leading a small team.
Proven experience in hiring, onboarding, and developing software development teams.
Strong experience with product management and ownership—managing backlogs and roadmaps.
Experience running sprints, tracking project status, and delivering results on time.
Proficiency with APIs, two-way data syncs, SQL, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS.
Familiarity with Laravel, including Livewire, Inertia.js, and Vue.js.
Fluent in English.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with integrating utility systems or 3rd-party services (like Zoho) is a major plus.
Experience with internal tools or business process software (not just external SaaS platforms).
Ability to create long-term technical strategy and plan for maintenance-first development.
ClickUp experience is preferred.
Working Hours & Location
Our office is located in the El Poblado area of Medellín.
The working hours for this role are to remain in sync with the company’s Austin HQ (Central Time) throughout the year.
